Blazing Heat for Island Triathlon

Blazing Heat for Island Triathlon
Triathlon participants had to swim, bike and run in record breaking temperatures Saturday, at the annual St. Joseph Island Triathlon.

Most adult races began early in the morning and were finished by noon, although the Kids of Steel competitions ran into the afternoon and the young athletes were facing temperatures over 30C during some of their events.

Athletes struggled most in the run portion of the triathlon, since it was the final leg of the race and unlike the swim and bike portion, offered no relief from the blazing heat. Plenty of hydration was offered up at the event to help battle the effects of the extreme conditions.

Congratulations to all athletes who completed their events Saturday. To view complete race results for the 2015 St. Joseph Island Triathlon click here.
