Island Club Hits the Ski Trails

After some much anticipated snowfall, lessons started Saturday for the Island Nordic Ski Club.

Steve Roedde was busy packing and rolling the Makes Scents Trails, as soon as the snow settled in. Skiers were invited to use the trails on December 29th, but with a warning that there could still be rocks and debris exposed in some areas.

The Island Nordic Ski Club (INSC) held its first lesson on Saturday January 2nd, with a good turnout of both youth and adult skiers looking to improve their skills. Everyone was excited to finally ski, after weeks of dryland training and running with INSC Instructors, Detlef, Daniela, and Mike.

Although there is not yet enough snow to set the classic track, the group made several loops around the main trail and the field for a final ski of the day.

Santa was good to the skiers this year, and several kids came out with new equipment for 2016.

Alyssa Stevens was the lucky winner of a new ski package, generously donated to the Island Ski Club by Algoma Bicycle Company in Sault Ste. Marie.
