The fishing derby started at 6am Saturday July 2nd and closed at noon on Sunday July 10th, in conjunction with Ontario’s Free Family Fishing Week.

Successful anglers submitted photos of their catch on a regulation tape, provided at registration. A photo gallery of fish and an online leader board were updated daily by club volunteer Kevin Coombs.

Greg Ryckman of Bruce Mines was hard to beat this year, as he caught the longest fish in 4 out of 6 eligible species in the adult division. Greg took home $500 in cash along with numerous draw prizes for his efforts.

The Desjardin boys, Heath and Deegan, were big winners in the youth division, taking 4 out of the 6 categories available, as well.

There were 25 adults and 10 youth registered for the derby this year with 70% of the entry fees paid back in cash awards.

SJI Hunters and Anglers President John Paterson, says “I was happy with the way the event went and look forward to hosting it again next year.”
