Emily Good, a former CASS athlete, has wrapped up her first shot put season with the University of Western Mustangs track and field team.
Emily finished her rookie season with three strong showings at her final three competitions. At the last regular season meet, at Guelph University on February 17th, Emily broke the 13 meter mark for the first time in competition. All six throws were over 13 meters, including her final throw of 13.79m. This would be good for 3rd place and cemented her position as the top ranked rookie in all of Canada.
Next up was the OUA event (Ontario University Athletics) in Toronto at York University on February 24th. Emily continued her strong throws with everything breaking the 13 meter mark again, with her best throw being 13.63m and finishing 4th overall. Since Emily was seeded in the top 12 and 4th overall in the country, she automatically qualified for the U Sports National Championships (formerly known as the CIS) in Edmonton.
On March 10th, competing in her first National University competition, Emily once again threw strong, with her best throw being 13.60 m. This would be good for 4th overall in Canada, an impressive feat for a first year competitor at the university level.
Emily will now focus on preparing for exams, as she completes her first year of studies in the Health Sciences program.
