CASS Track & Field Season Highlights

The CASS Track and Field team finished another successful season.  The season kicked off with the NSSSA Invitational and NSSSA Championships held in Espanola on May 10th and 17th respectively.  At NSSSA, the Huskies finished second overall behind Espanola in the team points.

 There were many notable performances at NSSSA including; Jenna Fleming - triple gold in javelin, discus and shotput, winning the junior girls aggregate trophy; Blake Dunning double gold in the 100m and 200m; Hannah Kent gold in discus; Caleb Parker gold in shot put and silver in javelin; Chase MacIntyre gold in discus; Michael Shaw gold in javelin and silver in 200m; Elisha Ishimwe gold in long jump; Wiatt Betty silver in long jump and triple jump; Marcus King gold in shot put and 110m hurdles; Matt Quenneville silver in discus; Manipal Osahan gold in javelin; Jeanette Wessell gold in 80m hurdles and silver in shot put; Quincey Clark silver in discus, javelin and long jump; Meghan Bringleson gold in 400m; Nathan McKellar gold in high jump and 100m hurdles; and the sr. boys 4x100 relay team won gold - consisting of King, Betty, Dunning and Ishimwe.

At NOSSA, in Sudbury on May 24-25th, the Huskies track and field team saw two athletes compete with medal-winning performances.  Jenna Fleming picked up a gold medal in jr. girls javelin and a silver in discus.  Michael Shaw won the gold medal in mg. boys javelin.  Both Jenna and Michael qualified for OFSAA in their events.  Huskies who saw a top-5 finish include: McKellar 5th in 100m hurdles; Wessel 4th in long jump; MacIntyre 4th in discus; Parker 5th in javelin; Dunning 5th in 100m and 200m; Fleming 5th in shot put; Clark 4th in javelin; Osahan 4th in discus and 5th in javelin; and the sr. boys relay team 5th in 4x100m.

The 2017 OFSAA Track and Field Championships were held in Belleville, ON from June 1st to June 3rd.  Jenna Fleming was the first competitor for the Huskies, with discus on Friday morning.  Jenna ended up in 17th place out of 24, with a best throw of 23.94m.  Michael Shaw competed in javelin on Friday afternoon.  Shaw also finished in 17th place with a best throw of 38.62m.  Fleming wrapped up the OFSAA trip with javelin on Saturday afternoon and she did not disappoint.  Fleming finished in 4th overall with a personal best throw of 37.25m, finishing only 9cm behind 3rd place.
