Run Around the Bay in Bruce Mines
There is a new fall event to look forward to in Bruce Mines, the Run Around the Bay 6K is a run/walk between the Marina and the McKay Island Lighthouse.

Run Around the Bay in Bruce Mines
Sunday September 10th at 10am racers will start. The course is a flat, out and back, timed event for the competitive runners and a fun family walk for all, with strollers welcome on the route.

This inaugural event is being organized by Ashley Heubner, her sister Danielle, along with Lexie Lajambe.   Ashley and Danielle joined a running group at Catalyst Fitness this spring and trained for a 5k race. They loved running and got hooked on racing after they competed in the challenging Mountain Maple Run on St. Joseph Island in May. From here the idea was born to host a run in Bruce Mines.

Ashley and her family helped out with the Bruce Mines Community Ice Rink last winter, and it was decided that proceeds from the run would benefit the rink.

The plan is to do a couple of shorter races for the kids, with fun prizes. Also, prizes for the fastest men’s and women’s finishers by age groups for the 6K run. Ashley says, “This is our first time planning an event like this and we really have no idea how many people to expect, but we’re hoping it will be a fun day for everyone who comes out.”

The run is scheduled for the same weekend as the annual Bruce Mines Fall Fair. It is hoped that the two different events will attract a variety of visitors and offer more to see and do while they are in the area.

Online registration is now open at and if you sign up before August 18th, you’ll be guaranteed a t-shirt. The cost is $25 per person or a family rate of $75.

Organizers are looking for volunteers to help out on race day. If you are interested or have any questions about the event, please contact them at

Correction: The original post said the race was on Saturday, but the race will be held on Sunday September 10th.
