10 teams signed up for the snow sculpture contest and built some pretty creative works of art in the park, which included a unicorn, moose, turtle, snow  castles, and one very colourful snowman.

Winners were Team Shmidt $100 gift card, Team Chapman $50 gift card, and Team Hodgson $25 gift card for Moose Sweats.

Kids, parents and grandparents took advantage of the more bearable temperature and also spent time during the event, skating on the outdoor rink.

HKCC committee member, Sherie Gladu, handed out warm apple cider, fruits and veggies to participants as they came into the rink shack to warm up.

"Theme 4 of the HKCC will see communities working to encourage children and families to build a balanced day that is not filled with screen time."

The goal is to help families power off devices and play more by: staying within recommended screen time limits, keeping devices off during important times of day (sleep time & meal time), and replacing some screen time with other activities that are physical, social, fun and educational.

Studies show that in Ontario the percentage of children who meet the recommended guidelines for screen time is low. Recommendations are no screen time for kids under 2 years, less than 1 hour/day for kids 2-4 years, and less than 2 hours of recreational screen time/day for kids 5-17 years.

Watch for upcoming events in 2018, as communities across our area role out new initiatives and offer ways to Power Off and Play.
