Saturday April 21st the SJIHA is hosting its second wild turkey hunting workshop. This well attended event offered last year, is back again. The course is for both new and seasoned hunters, and will focus on hunting techniques, decoy use, set up, and calling.

The course will be indoors and outdoors, with a fun calling competition to wrap things up at the end of the day. Just in time for the April 25th start to wild turkey season in WMU 45 & 36. Participants must pre-register by calling 705-941-8330 or 705-989-7319. Cost is $40 and includes lunch.

Sunday April 22nd is the club's first ever Gun Show and Outdoors Day which promises to be fun for families who enjoy the outdoors, hunting and fishing. Due to the amount of snow remaining and threat of more on the way, Sunday’s event will be held at the Legion in Richards Landing instead of the Clubhouse from 9am to 5pm.

The vendor tables have been sold out for the gun show, sale, and trade, and the parking lot will be full of boats, motors, ATV’s and other equipment exhibits.

Seminars are scheduled every hour Sunday between 10am and 3pm. Steve Elmy of Rackstacker and the new TV series Homegrown Hunter will be discussing how to video your outdoor adventures. John Giuliani of Giuliani Fishing Adventures will discuss peak seasons for fish species in the St. Marys River.  Dylan Jollineau of Gobblestalker Calls will discuss turkey hunting and calling. There will be two presentations on growing wildlife food plots. For a full schedule of seminars visit the new sJIhuntersandanglers facebook page.

Club member Ron Alton is certified with The Foundation for the Recognition of Ontario Wildlife (FROW) and will be on hand to score your deer or moose rack, so make sure to bring them Sunday, and see how they stack up provincially.

There will also be an outdoor interactive archery shoot for all ages and a raffle for one gun or bow. Food will be available onsite all day long and admission is by donation to the club.

Club President Larry Skinkle says, “Our club members have really come together to make this a great weekend. We hope families will come out on Sunday and bring along their friends to enjoy all the activities we have planned.”
