Mother Nature co-operated with superb weather last weekend for two events hosted by The St. Joseph Island Hunters and Anglers.

The Wild Turkey Workshop had 25 registered participants on Saturday and the club’s first ever Gun Show & Outdoors Day on Sunday saw over 500 people pass through the doors at the RC Legion in Richards Landing.

As a fundraiser for the SJIHA, tickets were sold throughout the day for a Hunter’s Choice Draw. The winner could choose one of four firearms or a crossbow. Islander, Terry Brason was the lucky winner, and chose to take home the crossbow.

Terry asked if he could see the winning ticket, and with a bit a smirk and chuckle explained that the winning ticket was actually the second ticket he bought that day. Terry is pretty happy that he decided to come back and get that second ticket.

SJIHA club member Ron Alton, was busy all day measuring moose and deer antlers brought in by hunters to be scored. As a result, there will be a few local hunters getting their names added to the next FROW record book.

The SJIHA Club President Larry Skinkle was thrilled that everyone’s hard work paid off, and it turned out to be an amazing weekend of events. “I would like to thank all the volunteers who worked to prepare and deliver these events in our community. A special thank you to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #374, the vendors, and sponsors for their assistance and support.”
