Volunteers Receive Provincial Awards

Several community volunteers were nominated by local municipalities and organizations to receive provincial recognition through the Ministry of Citizenship & Immigration Volunteer Service Awards.  Recipients were presented awards at a ceremony held April 23rd in Sault Ste. Marie.

The Dr. Harold S. Trefry Memorial Centre in The Township of St. Joseph nominated 6 volunteers for their years of service.

Pictured above left to right:  Marc Bujold, Mary Bujold (10 years) Barb Jackson, Sandy Palandra (10 years), Sally Wismer (10 years) & Nick Palandra. Not present were:  Harold Armstrong (5 years), Lucie Wills (10 years) and Fran Vere-Hunt (15 years).

Donna Bos received a 5 year pin as a member of the Laird Township Recreation Committee. John MacKay received his award for being a member of the Pumpkin Point Park Committee for 20 years. Other Recreation volunteer nominees included: Maxine Brockelbank-10 years, Beth Bruce-30 years, Allen Cook-5 years and Shawn Evoy-15 years.

Laird Township nominees, not present were: Girlie Collings-20 years, Roger Fremlin-25 years, Paul Perigord-30 years, Todd Rydall-5 years, Lisa Tarum-5 years and Jim Withers-5 years.

Two Tarbutt Township Volunteer Fire Department members were also present to receive awards: Chief Paul Ackland-25 years and John Hooper- 15 years.
