Islander in 33rd Ride for Sight

This year marked the 40th anniversary for Ride for Sight that was held in Fenelon Falls, Ontario. This was Hilton resident, Brian Read’s 33rd consecutive year in raising pledges and in attending the Ride for Sight.

The Ride for Sight has been dedicated to funding important vision research through the Foundation Fighting Blindness-Canada.

Sharon Colle, Executive Director and President of The Foundation Fighting Blindness, is seen here in a picture with Brian. Sharon spoke at the Ride for Sight and outlined some new and exciting research that is showing promising results to restore vision; one being stem cell treatments for age related macular degeneration (AMD), as well as gene therapy and bionics.  AMD affects more than 1 million Canadians and is the most common blinding eye disease in people over the age of 50.

Brian would like to thank all of those people who over the years have supported the Foundation for Fighting Blindness, including the St. Joseph Island Lions Club.

More information on the research can be found on the Foundation’s web page
