Several buses full of visitors toured St. Joseph Island sugar shacks Friday, with stops at Makes Scents on Highway 548, and the Irwin and Willoughby maple syrup operations on the 20th Sideroad.

People from across Ontario and some from Quebec are in the area this weekend taking part in seminars, workshops and tours all related to the production of maple syrup.

It has been 11 years since the tour has been in Algoma, and the bus tours are an excellent chance to poke around, ask questions, collect ideas and gather information from others in the industry.

Tours continue tomorrow to different locations including: Mountain Maple Products, Crowder’s Maple and Gilbertson’s Maple Products on St. Joseph Island and to Mainland hosts: MacKenzie Maple Products in Bruce Mines and Vine’s Maple Syrup in Thessalon.
