Run Around the Bay is Back in August

Run Around the Bay is Back in August
Age division winners from 2017.

The 6k run and walk which was created last fall as a fundraiser for the Bruce Mines Community Rink, is back for 2018 but with a few changes including the date.

The Run Around the Bay 6k is a timed run or walk, which starts at the Bruce Mines Marina and continues around the bay to the lighthouse on McKay Island and back. It had a very good turnout, with about 50 participants for a first time event in 2017.

Organizers Ashley Heubner and Lexie Lajambe have changed things up a bit this year, and the date is now Sunday August 26th with a 10am start. The September weekend they chose last year, is in conflict with many Terry Fox runs, so the new date in August was selected.

At the request of several runners, a 10k option has also been added to the event and these runners will get the extra distance down Taylor Street.

Jennifer Grexton at JG Graphics has designed a new, fun, logo for 2018 and everyone who registers before August 4th will be guaranteed a t-shirt.

Registration is open online at Individual rate is $25, and there will be a family rate of $75 to encourage more families to come out together.

There are prizes for the fastest time in each age division, as well as draw prizes for everyone who walks or runs.

Ashley says, "We plan on using proceeds from these events to install higher rink boards and perhaps some type of wind shelter for skaters in the near future".

Organizers are also looking for volunteers to help out on race day and will gladly give volunteer hours to students. Contact organizers at if you are able to help out at this event.
