Children's Library Receives Big Cheque

The Children's Library in Richards Landing gratefully accepted a big cheque on Thursday from the inaugural Island Poker Run held last month.

Peggy Chapman (L) accepts the cheque for $1089.71 from The Township of St. Joseph Healthy Living Coordinator Sherie Gladu (R). The amount was a combination of Poker Run proceeds and a generous donation of the first place winnings by David Kent.

"This is amazing for the library." It will cover one month's wages for our library staff",  says Peggy. "I know exactly where this money will be going."

The Children's Library, which is a private library and not publicly funded, relies heavily on fundraising and donations to maintain the building and pay the bills.

The library is currently selling daffodil bulbs for $10/dozen in their Bulbs for Books fundraiser, which can be purchased at the Children's Library, Moose Sweats, Wilde Strawberries Studio, or by calling Megan at 705-246-2877.

The library was selected as the recipient for the 2018 Poker Run proceeds in a random draw of 5 Island charities. Next year a new Island charity will be selected.
