Update on Biathlete Shilo Rousseau

Update on Biathlete Shilo Rousseau

Shilo came home for the holidays on December 17th from the Olympic Training Centre in Whistler BC, where she’s been living and training for the past 6 months.

During her time at home she was able to relax and enjoy visiting family and friends. Shilo managed to get her ski training in at Hiawatha and did some shooting at the Thessalon Rod and Gun Club. She took part in a fun Trap Shoot at the club.  Thanks to Mike Allen for allowing her to use his shot gun and all members who were there participating. She really enjoyed the experience of shooting a shot gun at the clay pigeons.

The Christmas holidays went by quickly, and Shilo had to leave for Quebec on the Dec 30th flying out of the Sault, where we said our fair well and wished her good luck at the trial races. It was a short visit, which seemed to all go by too quickly.

Update on Biathlete Shilo Rousseau

It’s that time of year again when the best biathletes in Canada compete to try and capture a spot on the Canadian World Junior/Youth teams. This is always stressful for athletes and their families.

The athletes hope that all the training done over the summer months and the early on snow racing will be enough to get a spot on the national team. When an athlete misses out on the chance to compete on an international tour, it is always disappointing.

Trial races took place in Valcartier, Quebec Jan 3rd to 6th 2019.  These trial races serve two purposes. The first is to pick the Canadian World Championship team and the second is to select the junior IBU team that will compete on the Junior World Cup circuit, held in Norway and Sweden in late February and early March. After these events the Canadian team will be taking part in the Norwegian National championships.

As we are writing this, we just received confirmation that Shilo has successfully made both teams. This will be her 3rd year representing Canada and her home town of Thessalon at the World Youth Biathlon Championships; this will be her last year competing as a youth.

The World Biathlon Championships will take place in Slovenia Jan 26th to Feb 3rd 2019 and host competitors from 35 countries and 4 continents.

The Rousseau family would like to thank all of Shilo’s sponsors for their continued support. We'll keep everyone informed on Shilo’s Biathlon Facebook page as information becomes available.
