New Stop on Country Road Open House

It was a beautiful weekend for the annual St. Joseph Island Country Road Open House Tour, which had some interesting new stops included for 2019.

The talented Gladu family opened their home studio on the corner of Hwy 548 and the A Line for visitors this year. Sherie and Patrick are both artists, so it only makes sense that their youngest daughter Sophie is a creative soul, and loves to paint.

Ten year old Sophie was selling her one of a kind, framed paintings for $5 on the tour. When we stopped by the studio, she was busy painting more to keep up with the demand.

During the summer you might catch Sophie selling paintings from her art cart at the end of the driveway. She has her own business cards and is available to do custom paintings, murals, and anything else that will allow her to get out her art supplies and be creative.

Sherie's bold, colourful, paintings and digital canvas prints of wildlife and local landscapes caught the eye of many buyers on the tour. On Sunday afternoon when we stopped in Sherie was very pleased with the number of visitors and sales she'd made so far, with a grand total of 299 people coming through during the 2 day, self guided tour. You can view more of Sherie's artwork on her instagram page @sherie.mckay.

Patrick Gladu made a last minute decision to joined the CROH Tour with the girls, showing a variety of projects he's been working on, which included handmade knives, drums from yellow birch logs at various stages, and beautiful woodworking with recycled materials and live edge lumber.

Neighbour Michelle Pearse of Island Wood 'n Things also joined the Gladu family for the tour, offering up her hand-made trendy beach and lake house themed items. Our favorite was Michelle's surfboard bar and stool set. Awesome! Michelle also does custom orders, so if you see something on Pintrest but you're not a DIY handyperson, Michelle would be happy to make it for you.
