New Triathlon Coming to the Island

For the past 3 years I've hosted a snowshoe event between Christmas and New Year's at our farm and donated the proceeds to someone locally who could use the money.

We helped Teri Winter in 2016, who was waiting for her heart transplant, supported Shilo Rousseau in 2017 as she competed in Biathlon, and last winter we donated to Thomas Vine who was hospitalized after an ATV accident.

This year we're changing it up a bit, and have decided to move the event over to Richards Landing and turn it into a mindful triathlon. First event, a snowshoe around the mountain bike trails at the Centennial Grounds. Second event, Ginette of Luna Vali Yoga has generously agreed to lead a yoga session in the Legion Hall to stretch us out. Final event, Heather Littleton is preparing a hearty lunch for us in the Legion Lounge, where the bar will be open and triathlon participants can re-fuel and re-hydrate.

This summer I was attacked by a dog while out for a run. As much as I did NOT appreciate spending a Friday afternoon in the ER, I was grateful that I only had to walk down the street and wait a short time to get fixed up. We don't really think about our local hospitals, until we use them. So the proceeds from the 2019 Back 40 Triathlon will be donated to the North Shore Health Network Auxiliary Richards Landing Matthews Site to help purchase new equipment for the hospital.

In the past, I've just set out a coffee can and asked the women who came out, to throw in a donation. This year we're asking everyone to pre-register online at eventbrite.ca by December 27th, so we have accurate numbers in advance.
