The CASS Athletic department is proud to report on a string of recent successes by our athletes.  First off, in Curling both the boys and girls teams represented the school strongly at the

NSSSA Championships. With the boys going undefeated in all their games, they won the overall NSSSA Championship.  Boys curling members include Carter Anderson, Lucas Brisson, Jack McIntee and Luke Spurway.  The girls team won all their matches except to WC Eaket from Blind RIver, last year's OFSAA gold medalist.  The girls finished in second place, and brought home silver medals.  Girls curling team members include Marah Bos, Joey Bos, Shannon Goodmurphy and Marisa Palmer.  Both teams represented NSSSA at the NOSSA championships in Sault Ste Marie on February 25th and 26th, but did not advance to the playoff rounds.

In Nordic Skiing, Micah Byman was our lone skier and represented the school extremely well.  At the NOSSA Championships in North Bay, Micah finished 7th overall, and 6th in the open division for Jr. Boys, earning himself a spot at the OFSAA Nordic Ski Championships in the Muskokas.  At OFSAA, Micah had an incredible run, finishing 20th overall in his division out of 155 skiers.

In wrestling, the CASS wrestling team had strong showings at the Sault Ste Marie City Championships, and at NOSSA in Elliot Lake.  Cole Stevens picked up gold medals at both the city championships and NOSSA, advancing to OFSAA which is being held in Sault Ste. Marie on March 2nd-4th.  Kyle MacDonald won gold at city championships but did not wrestle at NOSSA due to illness.  Brooke Rivers also won gold at the city championships and won silver at NOSSA, also earning a spot at OFSAA.  Gwen Allard won silver at cities and bronze at NOSSA.

Boys Basketball and Girls Volleyball also wrapped up their seasons earlier this month.  All four teams competed in their playoffs during the week of February 10-14, highlighted by the Sr. Girls Volleyball team winning silver medals against perennial champions Espanola High School.  Jr. Girls Volleyball and both boys basketball teams each lost their semi-final matchups.

Next up for athletics is Badminton and Track and Field.  Badminton is being hosted at the NSSSA level at CASS this year.  Track and Field will be held at Manitoulin Secondary School.
