East Algoma OPP Report Blind River Detachment

OPP LAYS 16th IMPAIRED CHARGE AS RESULT OF A MOTORCYCLE COLLISION

(BLIND RIVER, ON)- On June 19, 2020, shortly after 6:00 p.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Algoma District Paramedic Services responded to a single motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle with two occupants that entered a ditch on Granary Lake Road in the Town of Blind River.     

Investigation determined, the motorcycle was northbound on Granary Lake Road when the driver lost control and entered the east side ditch. The driver who was not wearing a helmet and the passenger received non-life threatening injuries.

As a result of the investigation, Ryan FREE, age 48, of Elliot Lake was charged with:

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on July 16, 2020.

ATV DRIVER CHARGED

(SPANISH, ON)- On June 20, 2020, members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on patrol duties in the Town of Spanish.

Shortly after 9:30 p.m., police observed an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) travelling northbound on Trunk Road. The ATV approached the stop sign on Front Street and upon seeing police, the driver quickly turned onto Colonization Road and then turned right on Public Road where a traffic stop was initiated.

As a result of the investigation, Jeffery DUGAS, age 49, of Spanish, was charged with: Drive While Under Suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Tra ffic Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on August 19, 2020

SHOPLIFTER CHARGED

(BLIND RIVER, ON)-On June 8, 2020, members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to shoplifting complaint at a local gift shop on Woodward Avenue in the Town of Blind River.

Shortly before 3:00 p.m., a shopper entered the gift shop and stole an item and left the store. Video surveillance and an Ontario licence plate number was provided for police and the identity of person was confirmed.

On June 20, 2020, police attended the residence of the accused and the person was served a Trespass Notice an d a provincial offence notice.

As a result of the investigation, Lora MCGRATH, age 42, of Espanola was charged with: Engage in Prohibited Activity on Premises, contrary to the Trespass to Property Act.
