MFN Police Initiate Traffic Stop Two Charged

On June 19, 2020, a member from the Mississauga First Nation Police Service was on patrol duties within the Territory of Mississauga First Nation.     

Shortly after 11:30 a.m., police observed a pick-up truck on Village Road that was being operated by a person known to the officer as being unlicensed. A traffic stop was conducted. Further i nvestigation determined that the driver had a suspended driver's licence and that the driver was taking the pickup truck to another location for a friend. That friend arrived at the location of the traffic stop shortly after.   

As a result of the investigation;

Troy MORNINGSTAR, age 46, from Mississauga First Nation, was charged with Drive While Under Suspension, 2 counts, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act. 

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on August 19, 2020. 

Also charged was Jean-Paul LEONARD, age 61, form Elliot Lake was a Provincial Offence Notice and charged with: Engage in Prohibited Activity on Premises, contrary to section 2(1)(a)(i) of the Trespass to Property Act.

On April 2, 2020, Mississauga First Nation closed its doors to non-community members due to the Covid -19 outbreak .
