Rainy Day for Bruce Mines Run Around the Bay

Sunday morning 90 racers and 10 volunteers endured the rain and dodged puddles at the 4th annual Run Around the Bay 6k & 10k race in Bruce Mines.

The event is organized by CASS cross country team coach, Lexi Lajambe and the Town of Bruce Mines Recreation committee, with each group splitting the proceeds. Registration was sold out on Eventbrite 2 weeks before race day, with a wait list of another 20 people who still wanted to join.

There was an overwhelming interest in the race this year, since it was the first in person race all season. Local races were cancelled due to covid 19, and many popular races in Michigan were cancelled or local racers are not able to attend because of the border closure.

Organizers worked with Algoma Public Health to ensure they followed safe distancing guidelines. This led to changes like the staggered start, no after food or water offered at the finish line, and no sticking around for an awards ceremony or presentations after the event.

Even with these changes and the rain on race day, participants seemed thrilled to at last get out on the course and finally compete with other racers again.
