East Algoma OPP Charges 35th Impaired Driver

On October 11, 2020, shortly after 3:15 a.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were advised of a single motor vehicle collision that occurred approximately an hour prior on Chiblow Lake Road in the Town of Iron Bridge. The vehicle driver was transported to a local hospital in the Town of Blind River with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police attended the hospital and the investigation determined the vehicle left the roadway and hit a tree. While speaking to the driver at the hospital officers determined the driver had consumed alcohol.

As a result, Sarah DAYBUTCH, age 19, from Sault Ste Marie, was charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired-Alcohol and Drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC);
  • Operation While Impaired-Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC. 

The driver was issued a 90 day Administration Driver's Licence Suspension (ADLS). The motor vehicle was towed and beyond repair.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on December 2, 2020.
