About Us

Welcome to the North Channel Current Website.

I've created this website to provide up to the date news and information for Central Algoma communities along the North Channel of  Lake Huron, or "down the line" as we locals say.  Our online newspaper covers the communities of Echo Bay, Richards Landing, Hilton Beach, Desbarats, Bruce Mines, Thessalon, Iron Bridge and Blind River.

Those of us who are lucky enough to live here, know what an amazing spot it is. Surrounded by beautiful scenery and amazing neighbours in each small community. We have so much going on throughout the area, I felt there was a need for a local website, which could provide up to date information on what's happening in our schools, community centres, and municipalities.

The North Channel Current  encourages readers to participate by submitting stories, photos, and other interesting content to our family friendly website. If you have a story or photo to contribute, or news tip you’d like us to follow up on, please pass it along to us at story@northchannelcurrent.ca or call/text 705-989-9932. To sustain this site we must sell advertising, so if you're interested in placing an ad please email us at  ads@northchannelcurrent.ca or call 705-989-9932 for rates and special promotions for local businesses and please support those businesses who make the website possible.

Click on the Local Events button to open our calendar. To add your event just hit the "submit an event" button and put in the info. It's free to add your event to the calendar, so please take advantage of this service.

Depending on the amount of reader contribution and feature articles, I will try to update the site daily or at least 5-6 times per week.  The Current is very much a work in progress, so please be patient and check back in a few days if there is not a new story tomorrow.

Thank you for stopping by. I hope you enjoy the site and visit often.
